With little architecture in the area from which to draw inspiration, the design for the Somersett Golf Clubhouse was derived as an extension of the landscape and its natural surroundings. This integration with the surrounding topography serves to accentuate the building as an icon of the Somersett Golf Course as one approaches the course from below.
A careful analysis of the sloping site and program enhances the golfer’s experience through thoughtful space planning. Massing that allows natural light to filter through the building, orientation that blocks prevailing winds while maximizing sun and views, and various outdoor spaces that provide additional program flexibility, all serve to provide ample opportunities to experience the beautiful surroundings of the Sierra Mountains. Guests arrive at a covered entry where all amenities –dining, lounge, lockers, and golf pro shop – are easily accessible on the main level. Administrative offices and a private boardroom are located on an upper level to take advantage of additional building volume. At the lower level, delivery services and golf cart storage take place, isolated from public view.
