This Master Plan for New Hope Uganda, an established Christian “Non-governmental Organization” in central Uganda, is the culmination of several months of collaboration between EMI, for whom Stuart Brummett served as interim staff architect, and the leaders of NHU. The new Kobwin campus seeks to serve as a rehabilitation center for former child soldiers and victims of the 18 year civil war between ruthless rebel armies and the villages from which the child soldiers themselves had been abducted and brainwashed as children. The design, as presented, is currently under construction with a projected build-out in 5 to 7 years and includes a number of “homesteads” for orphan children and their adoptive aunties and uncles, a primary school, a secondary school, a vocational school, staff housing, and administrative buildings.
