A speculative single-family residence of approximately 3800 sf rests on a site with an average slope of 18%. In contrast to recent local developments, this design strays away from grandiose interior spaces in preference for well choreographed experiences and a variety of indoor/outdoor spaces. The lower level serves to anchor the home into the hillside, while the main living spaces rest lightly on and over the land. The design’s narrowness allows all spaces to take advantage of natural light and ventilation, giving the house enough length to step its way up the site, creating an exciting procession through the home. An exterior material palette of drystack stone veneer and horizontal wood siding will truly let the home sit within the natural mountain landscape. In an effort to open the house up to outdoor living, a sod roof has been placed above the garage, removing the typical front yard from the street for privacy and allowing the main living areas to capitalize on views and southern solar exposure.
