After considering a wide array of potential design directions, the clients chose to pursue the re-creation of a farmhouse rooted in the combined heritage of rural Colorado and of their childhood homes in Oklahoma. The spine of the home implies a historical stone barn structure with secondary forms suggesting incremental additions over time. Despite the home’s farmhouse references, the open floor plan lives very much like a home in the 21st century. A series of sliding doors recess into hidden pockets, creating a 20’ opening from the living room onto the exterior patio and lap pool. High efficiency windows, passive thermal design, and geothermal heating and cooling dramatically reduce utility bills as well as the home’s environmental impact.
